Breathtaking highlights

For the International Tourist Guides Day (February 21nd), the Association of Licensed Guides organizes a "TREASURE HUNT" in Athens, Greece in order to project the role of the tourist guides in Greece.

The Onassis Cultural Centre is Athens' new cultural space hosting events and actions across the whole spectrum of the arts from theatre, dance, music and the visual arts to the written word, with an emphasis on contemporary cultural expression, on supporting Greek artists, on cultivating international collaborations and on educating children and people of all ages through life-long learning.

The biggest and most historic park in Athens, the Pedio tou Areos park, has been renovated and restructured under the directions of architect Alexandros Tombazis and offered to the visitors and inhabitants of the City of Athens.

This category of lesser-known establishments includes the so-called "potadika," or small, neighbourhood bars. They tend to be rather cozy, with a few tables and a lengthy bar and an emphasis on the fact that they depend almost exclusively on regular patrons. Nafplion, or Anapli, is a small town lying peacefully in the recesses of the Argolikos Bay. The capital of the Prefecture of Argolida and the main port in the Eastern Peloponnese, it is one of the most picturesque towns in Greece, and was the capital from 1828 to 1833.

For the last 28 years, the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) organizes yearly, the international Athens Classic Marathon event; a popular mass sport and tourist event, in which thousands of runners from Greece and abroad participate. The Athens Classic Marathon is a unique event, held on the authentic, historical, Olympic Marathon course and will take place on Sunday 31 October 2010.

The success of something, whether it is a simple recipe or a theatrical production, largely depends on the ingredients. It is the same with the rooftops of Athens. The first and most important ingredient is a view of the Acropolis. If you can see the Acropolis, you are ahead of the game. The second is the sea, and fortunately there is plenty of that very near the city.

Aiming at becoming a point of reference for new technologies sectors, innovation, entertainment, creativity and the new digital culture, Athens Digital Week will be staged for the third consecutive year from Thursday 7 October through Sunday 10 October at Technopolis in Gazi. Athens Digital Week is a festival of technology staged by the City of Athens

The multipurpose venue Micraasia will present the first Middle East Alternative Sound and Arts Festival from 27 September to 2 October. Artists from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Egypt will be taking part. Thirty artists will present music, short films, documentaries, video art and photography.
