With over 2800 members in almost 100 countries offering services in 50 languages, AIIC is the only international association representing professional conference interpreters. It was established in 1953 and has its headquarters in Geneva.
The UN, the European Union, the Council of Europe, and many more international organizations recognize AIIC as their only official interlocutor in matters related to conference interpreting. The local section of AIIC currently has 34 members in Greece, and 5 in Cyprus.
AIIC sets the standards and watches over a profession which has little external regulation. It follows a strict admissions procedure and vouches for the professional credentials of its members.
All AIIC interpreters are bound by a rigorous code of professional conduct, and are expected to provide both a top level professional service and guarantee absolute confidentiality.
