Great places to take the kids
The historic centre of Athens, where many of the city’s attractions are, was not designed by our forefathers to entertain 21-century minded children. But there are spots around the Attica region that provide fun for the family and some a bit more adventure for the kids.
The small petting zoo at the Royal Gardens-Zappeio could be the primer to the 32-acres wildlife kingdom at Attica Zoological Park. A few km on Kifissou and Petrou Ralli Streets in the Rendi area of Athens, best to get to via taxi, is Greece’s largest and more advanced amusement and adventure park, Allou Fun Park (www.allou.gr) and smaller Kidom for the little ones. A popular go-cart track on the coast in Agio Kosma, accessible via tram, is open daily from 9:00 to 15:00. In the northern suburb of Marousi is Fantasy Land, on Kifisias Avenue is the biggest amusement park with rides in Athens. North of Athens, in the area of Oropo, is Water Park +30 22950-37570. Amusement parks are also in Glyfada. “International” is located on the 4th Marina (easily accessible by tram) and Varkiza, called “Varkza” next to the organized beaches. Another playland chain with outposts in Alimos, at the Mall, Athens Heart and Avenue in Voula, Spata, Anavissos and at Flisvos Marina (www.flisvosmarina.com) is Volta Fun Park.
