Athens is easily accessed by air, sea and road as it is the capital of Greece. What is more, moving around the city is a real pleasure. Athens public transportation system connects the city center with all surrounding areas through a synchronous network combining many lines of metro, train, suburban railways, buses, trolley buses and trams. The road system has been modernized in recent years with new highways. The capital is connected with other parts of the mainland through a network of railways and coaches. Furthermore, Athens has direct connections to all Greek islands through the ports of Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina.

Easy, Quick and Inexpensive Athens Transportation

The synchronous Athens transportation network - Metro, Buses, Tram, Railway, Trolley - buses and fast highways - provides for quick and easy transportation at a very low cost. It takes a maximum of 39 minutes at a cost of 6 Euros to get from the Airport to the city centre - where most hotels are located. What is more, most hotels are within walking distance from a metro station within the city centre, which means that it will take you 3 to 5 minutes for almost any transport within the city of Athens. A ticket costs 1 Euro and can be used for all Athens transportation means over a one and a half hour period, and a day card costs 3 Euros. Taxis are also inexpensive compared to prices in most European capitals.

The new Athens International Airport (AIA) "Eleftherios Venizelos" annually welcomes in the region of 17 million passengers (based on figures in 2008) and over 200.000 flights. These figures have placed AIA in the list of the fastest growing airports throughout the world. Year by year, the airport enriches its network with new air companies and new destinations. In 2007 alone, AIA welcomed 15 new air companies and 10 new destinations. As a result, today AIA is connected to all major cities around the world at competitive prices.
