14th Athens International Film Festival, "Opening Nights Conn-x"
For eleven days, from September 17 to 28, the heart of cinema beats in Athens. Organised by the Athens Film Society, the "Opening Nights Conn-x" or Athens International Film Festival brings in the Greek capital the best of the international cinema field.
Among the festival highlights is the visit of the animation master Bill Plympton and the screening of his new film "Idiots and Angels", "Hunger" by the visual artists Steve McQueen, "Gomorra" by Mateo Garone and many others.
The festival consists of 15 sections; the Competition section features films irrespective of style and description. "Panorama of World Cinema" features well and lesser known films that have attracted audience attention at festivals around the world. One of the most popular Festival sections, Music & Film become this year a Competitive Section and it presents a stimulating selection of music genres introducing new musicians and trends and paying tribute to the classics and reveals unknown chapters in the history of music. The section entitled "Mignight Movies" is an open invitation to late-night movie buffs, promising a series of suspenseful nocturnal screenings of varied content: the latest in Asian horror, select retro chills and some of the most controversial offerings by American make up one of the most adventurous and entertaining sections of the festival.
Other sections feature documentaries, screening of the most interesting big-budget productions of the upcoming season, cinema on the edge, retrospectives, special screenings, as well as films by Greek directors of the diaspora.
Note that in Greece, foreign films are not duplicated; they just carry subtitles in Greek, therefore you can watch them in the original language.
