Film Tribute to the Berlin School at the Pallas Theatre

ELLTHEA presents a series of tributes to world cinema at the Pallas Theatre, beginning with the Berlin School, January 22-28. After a long period of absence, German filmmaking has returned. It has been since the '70s and the Fassbinder, Venders  and Herzog generations that we have had such variety of topics, aesthetic trends, sensitivity and imagination in approaching a reality that deals with the private sphere or the political, social and historical challenge.

The tribute includes 16 films by all the important representatives of this school. The audience will not have the chance to see most of these films in the theatres, as they have not been selected for distribution, while some will officially premiere at the Pallas Theatre. Most of the films give the viewer a solid historical view of the progress of the Berlin School, as well as an idea of the evolution of its basic contributors. The filmmakers present one of their first films that helped to shape the school and its views, together with one of their more recent films.
Directors Christoph Hochhäusler, Christian Petzold and Maria Speth; Nina Hoss, leading actress in Petzold's recent films; and Reinhold Vorschneider, director of photography in many Berlin School films, will attend the tribute in Athens.
