Cinema on Your Plate: 8 films - 5 cinemas - 14 restaurants

Cinema on Your Plate takes you on a tour of the best restaurants in town, offering you an unforgettable four-course dinner inspired by eight carefully chosen films. Every Monday, from 23 February until 13 April, different cinemas in Athens will host eight nightly shows which will be introduced by well-known film critics and popular artists.

After each show, two extraordinary restaurants in the city centre will undertake the task of interpreting the movie atmosphere with culinary selections, adding a new dimension to the films and pushing gastronomic boundaries.Movie-goers will thus have the opportunity to watch a movie on the big screen and sample a menu prepared by prominent chefs at a friendly price.

The series starts with Oscar-winning Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, in an exclusive screening followed by an Indian-theme dinner.

It continuous with the classic Asian tale of female independence, When a Woman Ascends the Stairs, by Mikio Naruse, and Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet. Both will be followed by samplings of exotic cuisine.

Romance is the theme in Two Lovers, with Joaquin Phoenix and,Gwyneth Paltrow in a memorable performance, while the Edge of Love joins free-spirited Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley in the pursuit of the same man. Romantic dinners will follow this evening.

French directors Jean Renoir (The Southerner) and Pascal Thomas (Le Crime Est Notre Affaire) compete for the attention of four creative chefs serving up delicious Parisian cuisine.

Last but not least, Small Crime, by rising local talent Christos Georgiou, is the best excuse to taste local specialities straight from the island of Santorini.

The festival is once again being staged under the auspices of the City of Athens, as 40% of the revenues from the film shows will be allocated to charity.
