The China National Acrobatic Troupe

The China National Acrobatic Troupe was founded in 1950 under the patronage of Prime Minister Zhou Enlai and was the first acrobatic troupe created after the establishment of the New China. Its repertory consists of 100 different programmes, including air acrobatics, vocal creations and magic. This amazing troupe will be in Athens for 12 performances at Badminton Theatre from 11 to 22 March.

Over the last 10 years, under the patronage of the central government and of the local province governments, the China National Acrobatic Troupe has displayed an impressive evolution of its artistic production. Twenty-four acrobatic shows have won 32 gold medals in both local and international competitions, establishing it as a world-famous performing company. The troupe's productions at the two Beijing theatres have had a major impact on tourists visiting the city and constitute an important part of artistic expression in Beijing.

Since 1990, a multitude of shows including Oriental Splendid Arts, Chinese Charm, "Old Beijing Tianqiao Folk Acrobatics, Nationalities' Spirit and Chinese Soul have become part of the troupe's repertory. The troupe maintains its own acrobatic academy, which has grown into an artistic school not only for acrobatics, but also for dance, arts, Chinese kung fu and acting. It is worth mentioning that the acrobats of the troupe participated in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic Games of Beijing, while the theatres hosted daily performances as part of the cultural events of Beijing 2008, showcasing the acrobatic arts of the city.

Over Christmas 2007, this famous China National Acrobatic Troupe presented 16 sold-out shows at the Athens Concert Hall entitled Spectacular Acrobatics, where 24,000 spectators of all ages enjoyed the extraordinary show.

In March 2009, this magnificent troupe will again visit Athens for 12 performances at Badminton Theatre with a new line-up full of colour, breath-taking acrobatics and magic virtuosity, guaranteeing enjoyment for young and old!
