Living Painting: A Kostas Tsoklis exhibition
Kostas Tsoklis will present an extensive exhibition of his work with the title Living Painting at the "Scholeio (School)" building on Pireos Street, Athens from 31 March to 31 May. It will be the first time that all of his Live Painting work, created since 1985, will be presented in total. The show is under the auspices of the Hellenic Culture Organisation, the City of Athens and the Municipality of Piraeus.
This particular form of visual expression was called "Living painting" by critics when Tsoklis, representing Greece at the Venice Biennale in 1986, presented his Speared Fish and Live portraits. He projected video of the original models onto the painted canvases, giving the work a sense of real life through the almost imperceptible movement of the video.
The artist has never held an exhibition on this scale because there had never been an appropriate venue until the "Scholeio" building became available. All of the buildings in the complex take up an entire block and once housed the Sanitas factory. Now, about 3,000 square meters of space has been especially designed by the artist to display about 100 of his large and occasionally huge works.
