7 Ply Project skateboard art and culture festival at Technopolis
After three years in a row, the Vodafone CU 7 Ply Project skateboard art and culture festival has been established as the biggest event held in Greece showcasing all elements of street culture and especially skateboarding. Technopolis in Athens will once again host the festival on 8, 9 and 10 May. Live concerts and dj sets, as well as skateboard contests, will take place on location during the festival, in addition to the skate art exhibition.
The skateboard deck is used both to inspire each participating artist and express his ideas through the process of transformation that each deck goes through, resulting in new and unique art object.
People of all ages and interests will have the opportunity to find out what the skateboard culture and lifestyle are all about, while art and music lovers, skateboard fans and of course skaters will have the chance to enjoy the exhibition, the skate facilities and the music that will make for an amazing spectacle.
The mini ramp contest, which made a great impression on last year's attendees, will take place on the Propaganda and Vans mini ramps that will be set up in the same way as last year.
A new addition this May aimed at melding together the street characteristics of skateboarding with the festivities, is a new construction that will serve as a deck long enough on the run up to allow skaters to gain the necessary speed to jump over 10 stairs or hit the handrail standing above the stairs. The "CU @ the stairs" best trick contest that will take place on this new construction, highlighting in rising level of the Greek skateboard scene.
The three winners of the mini ramp contest and the winner of the best trick contest will share a total prize purse of €3,000.
The mini ramp contest will take place on Saturday with registration starting at 11:00. The best trick contest will take place on Sunday with registration also starting at 11:00.
Danny Wainwright, an artist and pro skateboarder who still holds the Guinness world record for the highest ollie, has once again been invited by VANS to present his artwork on skateboards and do a special demo on the mini ramp on Saturday at 19:00. Giotis Gordios, the first Greek pro skateboarder, will share his skateboarding skills with the kids who attend the "rolling school" both Saturday and Sunday morning.
Also graffiti artist Fukone from Belgium and Greeks W.O.F. (Walls on Fire) will put on a "burning" graffiti performance on a specially assembled wall just for the occasion.
Music for the festival will be provided by A/E (Artemis/Efthimis - Athens) and the Bikini Girls with Machine Guns (Barcelona) on Saturday and One Drop Forward (Thessaloniki), Steve Aoki (Hollywood) and dj Monachus (Athens) on Sunday. Both gigs start at 20:00.
