Dino Saluzzi's tango is old as well as new, ethnic as well as world, earthy as well as abstract. His music contains all the sounds and memories of Latin American tradition, creating a new musical idiom with contemporary modes and colours. Now in their eighth year of collaboration, Argentine bandoneonista and composer Saluzzi and German cellist Anja Lechner present Ojos Negros, drawing praise from all over the world. Enjoy them at the Vrahon Theatre in Athens on 7 July.

Dino Saluzzi is one of the central personalities in contemporary Argentine music. His colleagues readily acknowledge his contribution to the development of the bandoneon (a type of accordion) and to the continuation of his country's musical tradition.

Anja Lechner studied with Jan Polasek, Heinrich Schiff and Janos Starker, winning a scholarship from the German National Merit Foundation. In 1992, she co-founded the Rosamunde string quartet, in which she played cello. Since then, the Rosamunde Quartet has followed an international course and appeared at many festivals while also recording with ECM.

For a number of years, Lechner has been interested in improvisational expression in a variety of musical traditions. Her interest in Tango Nuevo led the Rosamunde Quartet to collaborate with Argentine composer and bandoneon virtuoso Saluzzi. The result was an album called Kultrum which was widely praised by the public and critics alike.
