Amadou & Mariam

Amadou & Mariam, one of the most notable African groups, will be appearing live in Athens 18 September at the Papagou Garden Theatre. The history of their life and career sounds like a movie script. A man and a woman meet at a school for the blind as students and fall in love. Both musicians, they manage to overcome all obstacles to become international stars and ambassadors of Mali's musical tradition throughout the world.

Their albums, Dimanche à Bamako (produced by Manu Chao) and Welcome to Mali, have sold hundreds of thousands of copies, topped the charts and made these blind musicians world-famous.

Welcome to Mali is their masterpiece, as their unique musical artistry combines melodic verses with blues and funky beats. It has gone well beyond the constraints of world music and made the crossover to rock.

Amadou & Mariam have toured throughout the world and have appeared at WOMAD and Glastonbury, as well as at such US festivals as Coachella and Lollapalooza.
