Panorama of European Cinema 2009
The Panorama of European Cinema will take place from 22 October to 1 November at the Ideal and Trianon Filmcenter cinemas, as well as at the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation in Athens. The Panorama of European Cinema is being staged for the first time this year by the City of Athens Cultural Organisation. It is expected that more than 100 films from European and other continents will be shown over its 11-day duration, focusing on the achievements and promoting European cinema.
As they do every year, recent European productions will compete in the festival's Competition Section for the Panorama Prize, presented by the International Jury which consists of international personalities in the field. They will also be competing for the Critics' Award, presented by a three-member committee of members of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI). As in recent years, the Panorama will again present the People's Choice Award, which is decided by a five-member committee of readers of Athinorama magazine. The "New Release" section will feature preview screenings of films from various international festivals, some of them award-winning, as well as recent production which have not yet found their way to the Greek movie theatres.
The Panorama of European Cinema will include the following sections:
