Budapest Festival Orchestra at Megaron Athens Concert Hall
The creation of maestro Ivan Fischer, the exceptional Budapest Festival Orchestra will once again captivate audiences at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall on 22 and 23 March with a programme that will feature Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony nos. 4, 6, 7 and 9. The strong partnership between Fischer and the orchestra has resulted in its exemplary function.
The Hungarian maestro had the opportunity to introduce serious reforms and to develop rehearsal methods, emphasizing chamber music and the creative work of each orchestra member. He established new types of concerts, such as "cocoa-concerts" for young people, "surprise-concerts," where the concert programme is not announced in advance, open-air concerts attracting thousands of people and concerts during which he converses with the audience.
The two concerts will provide a unique musical experience for Megaron audiences. Their programme includes: Symphony nos. 4 and 7 by Beethoven on 22 March and Symphony nos. 6 and 9 on 23 March with the participation of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) Choir and the "Macedonia" choir under the direction of Antonis Kontogeorgiou.
Appearing as soloists will be: Myrto Papathanasiou (soloist), Kelley O'Connor (mezzo soprano), Jorma Silvasti (tenor) and bass Kristinn Sigmundsson.
