Richard Galliano and his sextet at the Pallas Theatre
Richard Galliano, one of the most important living accordion and bandoneón players on the international jazz scene, is considered the heir of the great Astor Piazzolla, his close friend and mentor. Galliano will be appearing live on 19 April at the Pallas Theatre in Athens, Greece to take the audience on a captivating musical journey through the world of tango, classical music and jazz. Galliano is presenting two personal projects at Pallas Theater, accompanied by his leading musicians for a unique concert.
Piazzolla encouraged Richard Galliano to develop his own playing style, thus securing a brilliant career and top collaborations with artists such as Jan Garbarek, Michel Petrucciani, Toots Thielemans, Gary Burton, Miroslav Vitous, Charles Aznavour, Claude Nougaro and Juliette Greco.
It is no surprise, then, that a tribute to the legendary Argentine maestro should be undertaken. What might be considered subversive and bold are the simultaneous references to one of the classical greats, Johann Sebastian Bach. Those without a deep knowledge of music might be shocked by Galliano's daring view that Bach was the jazz musician of the classics, as borne out by last year's "Back Suites." It was an amazing recording, similar to "Piazzola Forever" of 2002 that was presented at 350 concerts around the world and was described as "the ultimate study" on the work of the Argentine composer.
The virtuoso accordionist is presenting these two personal projects on this year's tour, accompanied by his leading musicians for a unique concert of musical excess and jazz improvisation; for a magical night that combines the lyricism of a great classical composer with the fiery passion of a Nuevo Tango pioneer, bridged by the better known compositions of Richard Galliano himself as performed with his incomparable skill.
Don't miss Richard Galliano at the Pallas Theatre in Athens, Greece on 19 April.
