Greek National Opera presents a Triple Bill of ballet

The Greek National Opera Ballet will present five dance performances titled "Triple Bill" to mark International Dance Day (29 April), featuring works from the classical and modern repertory at the Olympia Theatre in Athens, Greece. Three educational morning performances will be presented on 12, 13 and 14 May at 11:00. The same programme, with the addition of three pas de deux, will be presented at two evening performances on Saturday and Sunday, 15 and 16 May at 20:00.

Compositions and adaptation of works by Johann Sebastian Bach

Daniel Lömmel, one of the leading dancers of his generation internationally, worked with George Balanchine and has danced in the best known ballets with stars of the Paris Opera Ballet.

Eugene Onegin
Choreography: Irek Mukhamedov (Dance director of the National Opera)
Music: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

This work was first presented in 2008 in a world premiere by the Greek National Opera Ballet and was repeated in February with great success. The ballet's plot is based on a novel by Alexander Pushkin and relates the unrequited love of the innocent country girl Tatyana for the more cosmopolitan Eugene Onegin.

Giselle
Choreography: Marius Petipa as adapted from Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot
Music: Adolphe Adam

The story is about the ill-fated love of peasant girl Giselle for Count Albrecht, who pretends to be a peasant and flirts with her.

The Corsair
Choreography: Marius Petipa
Music: Riccardo Drigo

Petipa's choreography was inspired by the story of the same name written in verse by Lord Byron in 1814.

The dance director of the National Opera, Irek Mukhamedov, was born in Kazan and studied at the Moscow School of Ballet. He was a leading dancer of the famous Bolshoi Ballet (1981-9), performing many important roles.
