Flamenco with Maria Serrano in Athens
The explosive Maria Serrano presents her new performance "Intuicion", sharing the stage with her sister and up-and-coming dancer Alba Serrano, as well as a group of four musicians from her major orchestra, Compania Maria Serrano. The magic of flamenco, embodied by the one and only Serrano, from 12 to 17 July at the Badminton Theatre's outdoor venue, "Mousiko Proavlio," in Athens, Greece for explosive dancing, a volcanic presence and expressive melancholy by the Serrano sisters.
When speaking of this amazing flamenco dancer known as Maria Serrano, the focus is her passionate presence and explosive dancing. She has been called the "Voodoo Queen" of flamenco and that is no exaggeration, as her music sweeps you away into a rhythmic battle with undefined demons, while in the next moment, her expressive melancholy dominates her magical movements. Serrano is not the typical flamenco dancer: she always goes well beyond the Sevillian tradition and creates her own. That is evident in the musical accompaniment she selects and plays with various styles: flamenco-jazz, Latin-jazz, Cuban-jazz and others. The guitars and vocals maintain a flamenco colour and the piano creates its own world in which Serrano weaves her own personal magic through the art that the great initiates of flamenco transplanted in her in her hometown of Seville.
Don't miss Maria Serrano from 12 to 17 July at the Badminton Theatre's "Mousiko Proavlio" in Athens, Greece.
