Tindersticks

Tindersticks, one of the most authentic and characteristic British indie rock bands, return to Athens, Greece on 19 September to the Lycabettus Theatre. The erotic charm and poetry of their lyrics is the trademark of the Tindersticks' songs. Many have described them as the continuation of Leonard Cohen, Ian Curtis and Lee Hazlewood. The characteristic voice of Stuart Ashton Staples brings to life erotic images in the best way possible. Their songs are hymns to unrequited love, wandering people and passions that never died down.

The popular band was formed by Staples in Nottingham in 1991. With the release of their first album in 1993, titled Tindersticks, they managed to revive the tired sound of British rock. The album was described by Melody Maker, the oldest music newspaper in Britain, as the album of the year.

The song orchestrations combine electric guitars, drums and bass with acoustic instruments, including percussion, melodica, violin and trumpets, achieving a riveting result. Their atmospheric music is full of imagery. It is no wonder that they have written music for many film soundtracks, including Isabelle Hupert's new film White Material.

In 2008 and 2009, their live performances confirmed their popularity with audiences. The concerts were a positive notice of their new album, Falling Down a Mountain, which earned good review and was described by NME as the "meeting of coming of age with romanticism."
