Tribute to Rudolf Nureyev at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus
A major ballet gala dedicated to the memory of the legendary Rudolf Nureyev will recall his amazing career, from the Kirov Ballet to England's Royal Ballet and the Paris Opera Ballet, as a great dancer and choreographer. The performance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, Greece on 13 September is a tribute to the magnificent Nureyev and an opportunity to enjoy the joy, the beauty and the magic of dance while supporting the Special Olympics Hellas organization.
This gala tribute to Nureyev, which premiered in London recently, will present some of the ballets that he performed in or choreographed himself, as interpreted by some of the great international stars in dance from such ensembles as the Bolshoi, the Mariinski, the Royal Ballet, the English National Ballet, the Paris Opera Ballet, the Berlin State Ballet and the Dutch National Ballet.
Famous stars of the ballet from some of the greatest theatres of the world will dance under the Acropolis for the Greek athletes taking part in the XIII Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2011 in Athens, where Apollon, the Games' mascot, will make his entrance.
