Athens for Gay & Lesbians

Athens has a vibrant Gay & Lesbian population, as Athens is a gay-friendly city. The successful Athens Pride Festival (www.athenspride.eu) that takes place every year is just one of the indications, as are the many guides and listings found in the guide magazines and the popular free press Athens Voice abd Lifo, and portals (many are in Greek only). There are several specific venues that cater to the LGBT travel market and can be found throughout the city. Travel agents can arrange tailored travel packages and tours to nearby islands and not only. In Athens, gay-friendly areas of interest are sure to be found in Gazi, Metaxourgeio, Kerameikos, Psiri and Iera Odos districts.

Galleries and unique shops are here too. And the museums are a must to visit. Additional popular destinations of interest however, include the gym and saunas Alexander Sauna, (www.alexandersauna.com); and Flex Sauna Gym and the café bars S-cape army Club and Blue Train.

A classic club is Lamda in the Makryianni district (www.lamdaclub.gr) and larger two-level Sodade in Gazi. Focusing on the genre is the gay-specific bookstore Colourful Planet (+30 210-882 6600; Antoniadou 6 in Patsissia).There are many erotic boutiques in the city too Senses.X in Kolonaki and Passion Sex in Glyfada are popular ones.
