PROGRAM
PART 1
Visit to the Archeological Site of Kerameikos, tour and lecture on the main principles of Greek Democracy
11:00 - 13:00
(instructor: Yannis Ziogas)
The archeological site of Kerameikos is presented as a crossroad in the entrance of the City of Athens. Kerameikos is a place where Constitution, Religion and Philosophy meet. An emphasis is put on the development of Thought in the Ancient Greek World. The grave steles will be presented, both the original and the copies that are displayed in the site. The lectures will develop images and the way these images are shaped (harmonic sections, geometry of space, and placement of forms). In that way there will be developed an experiential knowledge of the ancient Greek thought.
Break
13:00 - 14:00
Snack and coffee will be offered at the Herakleidon Museum
PART 2
Lecture/Workshop at the Herakleidon Museum
14:00 - 16:00
(instructor: Yannis Ziogas)
In these two hours the concept of art and mathematics will be developed. The lecture will elaborate on the framework that was introduced during the visit to the Kerameikos site.
First hour (theory): There will be an analysis of the grave stele of Hegeso. This will allow the participants to appreciate the framework of the ideas and techniques that shape the grave steles and how these help us realize the ancient Greek understanding of space and its geometric construction.
Second hour (workshop): Each of the participants will work on the study of a relief and will shape out of that a personal geometric painting.
