This year, from the 19th until the 30th of September, the capital's favorite cinema institution launches a very promising new collaboration with COSMOTE. Its name changes into Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights COSMOTE while it celebrates its coming of age with 12 days full of cinema and fun in the movie theaters Odeon Opera 1 & 2 (57 Akadimias Street), Danaos 1 & 2 (Kifisias Avenue 109) and Ideal (46 Panepistimiou Street).
The Francophone Film Festival began in the autumn of 2000 and in the coming years it was established as the spring cinema event of Athens. Over these 12 years that have passed, the francophone cinema has gained the Athenian audience, it has secured its place along the two magor greek film festivals (the International Festival of Thessalonique and the International Festival of Athens Opening Nights Conn-X) and has grown into one of the most important festivals of southeastern Europe.
Organised by the Athens Film Society, the 15th Athens International Film Festival - Opening Nights will bring the best of international cinema to the Greek capital. For 11 days, from September 16 to 27, the heart of cinema will beat in Athens. Highlights of this year's festival include two important openings for Greek cinema, a collection of 20 rare cult films and specials dedicated to two of the greatest contemporary film pioneers, Danish director Jørgen Leth and Polish filmmaker Zbigniew Rybczynski.
