The Morgenstern Trio will play live at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron), performing compositions by Beethoven, Brahms and Fremde Szene III, on 10 November. The Morgenstern Trio joined forces in 2005 at the Folkwang Academy in Essen. The Sonics from Tacoma, Washington, will play two live shows on 6 and 7 November at Gagarin 205 in Athens. The Sonics play garage rock and are a group that rocked the boat like no one else in the music industry in the mid-60s. Their unique sound forced music critics to invent the term "industrial punk." Their appearance is part of the 5th "Athenaeum Cave, the annual mod-60s happening staged by Belle Vue. The second show was added after tickets for the first night sold out.
Percussionist Mahmoud Fadl, one of the most important percussion musicians in the Arab world today, will be at the Half Note Jazz Club from 23 to 29 October. Fadl is from a country which no longer exists, though its historical and cultural legacy does - Nubia, which in the early 1960s was made into an artificial lake to serve the energy needs of Egypt. The rhythms and musical colour of Nubia remain today and continue to enrich contemporary world music - thanks to Fadl.
A unique tribute to jazz legend Miles Davis and his incomparable album, Kind of Blue, will take place at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Mousikis) October 24. In the 50 years since it was first released, Kind of Blue has gone quadruple platinum and continues to sell 5,000 copies a week. The album highlights Davis' influence by Ravel's Concerto for the Left Hand and Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 4.

Antony and the Johnsons will play a series of unique concerts in collaboration with symphonies across Europe this summer. The annual rendezvous with jazz music has been set for Technopolis in Athens Greece again this year. The 9th European Jazz Festival begins 27 May and ends 31 May, during which period 14 of the most influential jazz ensembles representing as many European countries will take the stage. Throughout the festival, three concerts daily are scheduled to begin at 21:00 and end by midnight. As it does every year, the City of Athens Big Band will launch the event with a special programme.

Vincenzo Bellini's well-known opera I Puritani will be performed 24, 26, 28 and 30 April at the Athens Concert Hall by the Greek National Opera in a co-production with the Netherlands Opera and the Grand Theatre of Geneva. I Puritani, a melodrama serio in three parts, is the last opera written by Bellini. The libretto is by Carlo Pepoli and was based on Roundheads and Cavaliers (1833) by Jacques François Ancelot and Joseph Xavier Saintine.
Their music is essentially funk -- deep funk with shades of the classic sound heard on 45s decades ago. It is a funk full of dynamic energy with a raw rhythm for "dirty" dancing. L'Olimpiade is an opera libretto in three acts by Metastasio that was originally written for Antonio Caldara's 1733 opera. Following Caldara's success, more than 60 baroque and classical composers used the libretto in their own renditions. Enjoy this opera at the Athens Concert Hall on March 4.
The City of Athens is celebrating Carnival with two events featuring music and dancing with a Latin theme at Technopolis, Wednesday and Thursday, 25 and 26 February 2009. A performance featuring Latin, tango and jazz will be presented 25 February at 9 pm; on 26 February at 9 pm, the groups Fuego de Cuba and Latino will put on an authentic Latin-American programme with plenty of music and dancing.
The Bios creative group and OUTRO present two important electronic artists that have a lot in common. Norwegian producers Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas are appearing in Athens on Friday 27 February at Bios and Yoga Bala respectively. After Lindstrøm's appearance at Bios, he will board the Athens Happy Train with Prins Thomas and the fans. The train will transport them to Yoga Bala for the next show.

The Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra is the world's largest gypsy symphony orchestra. It was founded in 1985, when Sándor Járóka, Hungary's most famous "primas" (gypsy soloist), died. All Hungarian gypsy musicians came to his funeral. After the ceremony, they began to play. The orchestra was born out of that improvised moment. No Use for a Name are a four-piece punk rock band from San Jose, CA., and have been the torchbearers of the skate-punk scene since Tony Sly and Rory Koff started the band in 1987. Mr. Scruff is a British DJ and artist whose name was inspired by his scruffy facial hair, as well as his trademark loose-lined drawing style. Transglobal Underground is a London-based music collective that specialises in a fusion of western, oriental and African music styles, sometimes labelled as "world fusion" or "ethno-techno." The project grew out of a mutual love for dance, avant-garde, Arabic, and world music and draws on each member's musical tastes and cultural backgrounds. They will perform live in Athens February 7 at the Fuzz Club.

Calexico is an indie rock band based in Tucson, Arizona, known for playing an eclectic variety of music that straddles the myths and multicultural traditions of the American West. Tannhäuser, one of Richard Wagner's most characteristic works, opens at the Athens Concert Hall on January 24, with additional performances on January 27, 30 and February 1. A San Francisco Opera production, the opera comes to Greece in collaboration with the Greek National Opera, directed by the respected Graham Vick. The story centres on the struggle between sacred and profane love, and redemption through love.
Red Snapper are a British instrumental band founded in London in 1993. Stylistically, their sound contains elements of jazz, funk, jungle, trip-hop, hip-hop and breakbeat, as well as references to early psychedelic and progressive rock. Efterklang (the Danish word for remembrance and reverberation) is a post-pop group formed on January 2001 in Copenhagen. They create a dramatic music located, aesthetically, at some point between the US contemporary classical group Rachel's and the Icelandic trio of Sigur Rós, atmosphericists Múm and occasional co-conspirators Amiina. When performing live, the core five-piece band is joined from violinist/singer Peter Broderick. Efterklang will play at An Club in Athens on 6th December.
