Twelve dancers and eight musicians of the Mevlevi Whirling Dervishes, the oldest Dervish regiment, are coming to Athens, Greece for an evening of mysticism on 27 March at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall. The Dervishes, an authentic expression of Islamic mysticism through a centuries-old dance ritual, seek to purify the human soul. Through the dance, they transmit their experience of ecstasy. The contemporary dance ensemble Cedar Lake is coming from New York to conquer the Athens public on 17,18 and 19 March at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall. Cedar Lake is an exceptional dance company based in New York. Its artistic vision and the group's aim is to showcase new choreographies by talented choreographers not only in the United States but at major theatres throughout the world.

The Bejart Ballet Lausanne is giving two dance and musical performances in Athens, Greece to benefit the Together for Children Union. On 27 and 28 March, the Badminton Theatre will feature Maurice Bejart's last choreography entitled Around the World in 80 Minutes. We will be taken on a magical journey through dance and light to the music of J. Strauss, P.I. Tchaikovsky, W.A. Mozart, M. Chatzidakis, M. Theodorakis and other great composers.

She is one of the best-known dancers of today's traditional flamenco on the Seville scene. A familiar and recognisable face - and body - in contemporary Sevillian flamenco, Alicia Marquez began learning Spanish dances at the age of 5 and by 10 she was also studying theatre. Immediately following her training, she began dancing professionally with the Mario Maya Dance Company. From 19 to 25 March, she will be appearing at the Half Note Jazz Club in Athens, Greece.

The Greek National Opera will present the ballet Eugene Onegin in Athens, Greece on 6,7, 9, 10, 13 and 14 February at the Olympia Theatre. Pushkin's fictional hero and selected compositions by Tchaikovsky have inspired this unique interpretation by Irek Muchamedov, the director of the Greek National Opera Ballet. The production is being repeated for a second consecutive year following its great success last season.

The Monte Carlo Ballet will present Romeo and Juliet at the Megaron, Athens Concert Hall on 5, 6 and 7 February. The famous dance company from the Principality of Monaco will be performing Shakespeare's tragedy set to music by Sergei Prokofiev and choreographed by French Jean-Christophe Maillot. In 2009, the company celebrated its 100-anniversary with a celebratory tour of Europe. The Athens performances are part of that tour.

A new production of a unique ballet gala will be on at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall from 10 to 15 January in cooperation with the Greek National Opera. The Athens Concert Hall welcomes the new year with an impressive gala that will feature some of the brightest stars in dance and keep audiences mesmerised for five evenings in the Alexandra Trianti Auditorium.

The Familie Flöz company will present "Teatro Delusio" at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall 28 to 30 December as part of this year's Christmas series. The performance shows the world of theatre through theatre itself. The company includes a wealth of talented theatre professionals, such as mimes, clowns, musicians, stage directors, mask makers, dancers, scenery makers and light technicians. Three principal actors interpret 29 different roles throughout the performance, raising some archetypical questions about the theatre.

Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella will be presented this Christmas in Athens, Greece by the Kiev National Opera Ballet at the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall with the collaboration of leading dancers from the American Ballet Theatre, Gillian Murphy and David Hallberg. The well-known fairytale will be on this Christmas in Athens, Greece from 19 to 27 December with morning, afternoon and evening performances.

The Universal Ballet's Nutcracker, one of the most famous ballets in the world, is coming to Athens, Greece in preparation for Christmas on 24 November until 13 December at the Badminton Theatre. This fairytale ballet premiered in 1892 and has inspired dozens of revivals by distinguished choreographers and dancers. The Argentine dance company Tango Por Dos, with famous choreographer and dancer Miguel Angel Zotto, is coming to the "Megaron" Athens Concert Hall on 3, 4 and 5 December for three evenings of tango never before seen. The new show is titled Es Buenos Aires Tango, featuring 14 amazing dancers, seven top musicians, a huge screen to project the Buenos Aires atmosphere and impressive costumes and lighting.

The wizards of performance art, the dancer-miracle workers, the actor-acrobats, the mime-magicians: this is Momix, the most famous athletic dance company in the world and they are returning to Athens for six shows 1 to 6 December at the Pallas Theatre. Having earned international recognition over the last 30 years, Momix take us through the best moments of their career with a "Best of Momix" show.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater celebrates its first ever performance in Athens that took place 30 years ago with a series of memorable performances at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) from 24 to 27 September. The Alvin Ailey dance troupe gave its first performance ever in Athens on 4 September 1979. This September, the most beloved ballet company in Athens returns to Megaron with new repertory, under the auspices of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce to benefit the Special Olympics Hellas.

Joaquin Cortes sets off on a journey of emotions. Under the title Calé, he begins a retrospective of his life and career, registering his influences and his personal experiences. Tango Passion, the music and dance whirlwind that started in Buenos Aires, travelled to Broadway and dazzled audiences in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East, returns to Athens to present its new show, Ultimo Tango, at the Badminton Theatre, 9-14 June. Through the eyes of choreographer Hector Zaraspe, it is possible to discern the typical human figures of Argentina's "dirty" dance, the simple people who invented the tango in the immigrant slums, as well as the stylish and elegant patrons of the Buenos Aires nightclubs.

In their new production, Sangre Flamenca, choreographers Angel Rojas and Carlos Rodríguez, the founders of Nuevo Ballet Español, present a passionate panorama of flamenco rhythms incorporating modern and traditional artistry. Following a run of successful performances at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet and Orchestra comes to Athens to present Don Quixote, one of the most joyous and celebratory classical ballets in the history of dance. It is a performance full of spectacular choreography, technical skill and Spanish temperament. Performances will take place at the Badminton Theater in Athens 3-12 April.

After the highly successful shows at the Benaki Museum in spring 2008, Electra Perpetrator returns to Athens for two performances at the Badminton Theatre on 28 and 29 March, featuring a bigger cast of actors and dancers, as well as composer Michael Nyman and his band performing the play's score live for the first time.

Sankai Juku is Japan's most famous butoh company. In the production of the hypnotic imagery, Kinkan Shonen ("Kumquat Seed") they explore a young boy's dream of the origins of life and death. Butoh is a Japanese contemporary performing art form that evolved during the 1960s as an expression of human awareness. Sankai Juku is part of the second generation of butoh troupes in Japan. Boris Eifman's ballet, Red Giselle, is based on the life of Russian prima ballerina Olga Spessivtseva. The ballet follows her rise to prominence during the Russian Revolution and her fall to madness in Paris. Now, Eifman and his ballet of St. Petersburg are coming to Athens to perform his Red Giselle, one of the great dramatic ballets of the 20th century. It promises to be a memorable performance, 7-10 February at the Athens Concert Hall.

The artists who changed our perception and expectation on how the Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies look like - turning them into highly appreciated aesthetic events in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games - Dimitris Papaioannou makes an impressive come back in the Athenian cultural life this autumn with his latest production Medea 2, on at Pallas from 3 October and for a limited number of performances.

This Christmas, Alicia Alonso will bring two masterpieces of romanticism, Don Quixote (19-25/12) and Giselle (27-30/12) to the Athens Concert Hall. The National Ballet of Cuba is one of the foremost ballet companies in the world. The artistic standards and the diversity in the aesthetic conception of the choreographers in combining Cuban sensuality with other classical ballets have granted this ensemble a place among the top dance institutions.

The Ballet company of the National Theatre of Prague, one of the most prestigious cultural organizations in Europe, will visit Greece and bring Romeo & Juliet directly from the heart of Prague to the Athens Badminton Theatre. One of the most tragic stories in history about love and death by William Shakespeare, the famous ballet by Sergei Prokofiev, and now envisioned by Youri Vamos' new perspective, will be presented  at  the Badminton Theater from 26th until 30th of November.

Cloud Gate Dance Theatre is a modern dance group based in Taiwan. It was founded by choreographer Lin Hwai-min in 1973. Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan is famous for delivering fascinating, spiritual performances. Artistically, Cloud Gate blends its roots in Asian mythology, folklore and aesthetics, with a modern sensibility. The company will perform the breathtakingly beautiful Moon Water at the Athens Concert Hall from the 27^th until the 30^th November.

"Live The Salsa Spirit" for three days at the Olympic venue in Faliro, from November 28th until November 30th, 2008. For the first time in Greece, a three-day international Salsa dance festival is being held. The first "Todo Latino Salsa Festival" takes place, with the participation of the greatest performers of the international Salsa scene.

The Trocks (Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo) is a group of professional dancers performing in female costumes who are taking over the world with their comic adaptations of traditional ballet art. The group contains only men, who perform legendary female roles from the ballet repertoire. The Trocks will delight and amuse Athens Greece from 11 until 15 November at Pallas Theater.

Grupo Corpo is a Brazilian dance theatre company founded in 1975, in Belo Horizonte, a town in the south-east of Brazil. The group combines the sensuality of Brazilian dance forms and the technical competence of ballet with a contemporary theatrical feeling and a lot of energy. They will perform at Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Mousikis) on 6 and 7 November.

Fifty years after the first official presentation, Clytemnestra will revive once again, with a long anticipated world premiere in Athens, to mark the beginning of the Martha Graham Dance Company world tour.

From October 15 to 20, Athens welcomes choreographer Yanina Fajar,  Tango Fire  dance group and Quatrotango Orchestra, who altogether take us into a marvelous journey into the world of tango.  Yanina Fajar learnt the art of tango next to great Argentinean masters, namely Sandra Butz, Gabriel Ortega, Silvio Lavia, Nito & Elva García and Pepito Avellaneda.

Already a key figure in the international contemporary dance scene despite his young age, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui brings an international production deeply rooted in the Buddhist ideology and tradition to the Athens Concert Hall on 26 July.

The Kerala Kalamandalam group of the Fine Arts Academy of India arrives in Athens for two unique evenings on Friday and Saturday, July 25th and 26th respectively. Under the direction of Nair Raman Kutty, Kerala Kalamandalam artists interpret traditional Indian music, Kathakali dance and scenes of the Indian epic Mahabharata.
