For eleven days, from September 17 to 28, the heart of cinema beats in Athens. Organised by the Athens Film Society, the "Opening Nights Conn-x" or Athens International Film Festival brings in the Greek capital the best of the international cinema field.
For second consecutive year, a major cultural institution - the Athens Concert Hall - invites both Athenians and visitors to live a unique music experience. The so-called "Open Air Nights" consists of a number of concerts taking place throughout September by well known Greek musicians from various different fields of the music scene.
Ask any experienced travel agent and they are sure to recommend Athens in the early autumn months of September and October. This is the time of year when visitors can enjoy the summer highlights without the crowds of summer including performances at the Odeon of Herod Atticus, Lycabettus Theater and Epidavros; outdoor cinemas; swimming at the nearby beaches; island getaways and outdoor bars and restaurants in Athens. In short, autumn in Athens takes summer in Athens and extends it by several weeks. What could be better than that?
